What to Wear to Your Senior Session: A Photographer’s Guide to Looking & Feeling Your Best
Your senior session is all about celebrating who you are in this moment — your style, your personality, your confidence, your vibe. And what you wear plays a huge part in how you feel during your shoot (and how much you love your photos!).
As your photographer, I’m here to make sure you feel amazing — so let’s talk outfits, colors, and a few insider tips that make all the difference. 💫
👗 1. Choose Outfits That Feel Like You
The best photos happen when you’re comfortable and confident. Pick outfits that reflect your personality — whether that’s soft and romantic, bold and trendy, or relaxed and natural.
What works well:
- Flowy dresses for a timeless, elegant look
- Denim and neutrals for casual, laid-back vibes
- Layered looks (like cardigans or jackets) for variety and texture
🎨 2. Stick to Soft, Neutral, or Earthy Tones
Colors like ivory, blush, sage, tan, denim blue, or dusty rose photograph beautifully. They keep the focus on you and work well with most backgrounds — especially nature or garden-style locations.
Avoid:
- Neon colors
- Busy patterns or large logos
- Anything that distracts from your face
👠 3. Bring a Second (or Third) Look
Variety is key! I recommend bringing 2–3 outfits:
- One dressy: think prom vibes or soft, romantic gowns
- One casual: jeans, cute top, boots or sneakers
- Optional: a look that feels extra you — your sport uniform, band jacket, or something playful and fun!
💄 4. Hair & Makeup Matters
Professional hair and makeup can boost your confidence and enhance your natural beauty on camera — but if you're doing it yourself, aim for soft, blended tones and a bit more than your everyday look (especially for outdoor lighting).
👑 5. Add Special Touches
Accessories, hats, simple jewelry, and props (like a flower bouquet or your favorite book) can make your session feel even more “you.” Just don’t overdo it — simplicity is powerful.
