What to Wear for Your Engagement Photos

Engagement photos are all about capturing you — your connection, your style, your vibe as a couple. But when it comes to picking outfits? That can feel overwhelming. So here are my top tips to help you feel confident, comfortable, and camera-ready:

Coordinate, Don’t Match

Choose outfits that complement each other in color and vibe — without being too matchy-matchy. Think soft neutrals, rich earth tones, or timeless color palettes that go with your shoot location.

Dress It Up (At Least Once)

Bring one slightly dressy look — like a flowy dress or a button-down with nice slacks. It adds elegance and looks so good in photos. You can always bring a second, more casual outfit for variety.

Avoid Distracting Patterns & Logos

Tiny patterns can get lost or look busy in photos, and logos pull attention away from you. Solid colors or simple textures photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your connection.

Think About Movement

Flowy fabrics, twirl-worthy dresses, or layers that catch the breeze can add gorgeous dimension and softness to your photos — especially during golden hour!

Be You — But Elevated

Wear something that feels like you… but leveled up a bit. If you’d wear it to date night or a nice dinner, it’s probably perfect.

Consider Your Location

If we’re shooting at The Wetlands, think earthy tones. Downtown Newburgh? Soft neutrals or romantic colors. Want something bold in the city? Bring on the pops of color!

Bonus Tip: Bring Options!

If you’re unsure, bring 2–3 outfit choices and I’ll help you pick the best one when we meet. I’ve done hundreds of sessions and know exactly what photographs well.

Most of all — wear what makes you feel confident.

If you feel good, you’ll look good, and your photos will reflect the real, radiant connection you two share.
