Just Got Engaged? Here Are Your Next Steps

You said yes!

You’re staring at your ring, dreaming of the day, and probably wondering… now what?

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the first things to do after getting engaged — without the stress.

1. Soak It All In

Take a breath. Enjoy this season. You don’t have to start planning immediately. Celebrate together, tell your people, and let yourself feel the joy before diving into the to-dos.

2. Set a Budget & Prioritize

Before you book anything, sit down together (and with anyone contributing) to decide on a realistic budget. Think about what matters most to you — venue, photos, food, etc. That will help guide every decision.

3. Choose a Season or Date Range

You don’t need to lock in an exact date yet — but knowing the season or general time of year will help you when reaching out to venues and vendors.

4. Start Looking at Venues

Your venue sets the tone for the whole wedding — and top spots book fast! Once your venue is secured, your date is officially locked in.

5. Book Your Key Vendors Early

Photographers, planners, videographers, florists, and DJs often book 12–18 months in advance (especially for peak dates). If you’ve had your eye on someone — now’s the time to reach out!

6. Take Engagement Photos

Not just for save-the-dates — engagement sessions are a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera and connect with your photographer (hi, that’s me!

).

7. Celebrate Again!

Plan an engagement party or a fun dinner with close friends and family. You only get to be “just engaged” once — enjoy it!

Planning a wedding doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With the right team (and a little bit of grace), you’ll find your rhythm.

And if you need a photographer who’s been there for hundreds of couples and knows how to walk you through this with heart and calm — I’m your girl.
