Top Wedding Planning Tips from a Photographer Who’s Seen It All

Planning a wedding is exciting… and a lot. After photographing over 275 weddings, I’ve seen what works, what doesn’t, and what makes all the difference on your big day. Here are my top wedding planning tips to help keep you calm, confident, and ready to say “I do.”

1. Lock in Your Core Vendors Early

Photographer, venue, planner, and florist — these book out fast (sometimes over a year in advance!). Prioritize who matters most and reserve your date ASAP.

2. Create a Realistic Timeline

Work backward from your ceremony time. Allow extra breathing room — especially during hair and makeup. It’s always better to have a few extra minutes than to feel rushed.

3. Do an Engagement Session

It helps you get comfortable in front of the camera and lets us build chemistry before the big day. Bonus: You’ll get great photos for save-the-dates or your wedding website!

4. Don’t Underestimate the Detail Photos

Gather all your invites, rings, vow books, jewelry, perfume, and family heirlooms in one spot before I arrive — I’ll take care of making them look stunning.

5. Trust Your Photographer’s Guidance

Lighting, posing, and timeline flow — we’ve done this hundreds of times. Trust the process and lean on us when you’re unsure. We’re here to serve you.

6. Communicate Your Vision Clearly

Pinterest boards, color palettes, must-have shots — share it all. The more I know about your style and vibe, the better I can capture your day the way you dream it.

7. Build in Time for Just You Two

The day flies by. Set aside 10–15 minutes post-ceremony or during sunset for private, quiet portraits — no distractions, just newlywed magic.

8. Be Weather-Ready

Always have a rain backup, even in the sunniest season. Clear umbrellas, alternate indoor spaces, or tents can be lifesavers and make for romantic photos.

9. Focus on What Matters Most

Details are beautiful, but memories are everything. At the end of the day, you’re marrying your best friend — that’s the real magic.

10. Enjoy the Day You Worked So Hard For

Let go, trust your vendors, and be fully present. Your joy will shine through in every photo.

You’re planning something beautiful — and I’d love to be there to capture it. Need help navigating the photo side of wedding planning? I’m always just a message away!
