Top Tips for Planning a Summer Wedding
Summer weddings are full of golden light, long evenings, and beautiful outdoor settings — but let’s be real: the season brings its own set of challenges, too. After photographing hundreds of weddings (yes, even on 90+ degree days!), here are my go-to tips for a stress-free and stunning summer celebration:
1. Beat the Heat
Plan your ceremony for earlier in the morning or later in the evening when the sun is less intense. Shade, fans, and cold drinks go a long way — trust me.
2. Hydration Station
Set up a self-serve water station with fruit-infused options. Your guests (and wedding party!) will thank you.
3. Dress for the Weather
Choose light, breathable fabrics for everyone in your bridal party. Flowing dresses and linen suits = cool and comfortable all day long.
4. Embrace the Season in Your Decor
Think local flowers, fresh fruit accents, and bright color palettes. Let summer inspire your vibe, not work against it.
5. Have a Back-Up Plan
Rain can happen even in July. Always have a tent, shaded area, or indoor backup ready to go — just in case!
6. Choose Summer-Friendly Food
Skip the heavy menu and opt for fresh, light dishes and refreshing cocktails or mocktails. Think seasonal fruits, salads, and fun signature drinks.
7. Think About Your Guests’ Comfort
Offer things like sunglasses, parasols, or hand fans. A cute “wedding survival kit” on each seat adds both charm and function.
8. Keep Hair & Makeup Fresh
Choose a makeup artist who knows how to work with heat and humidity — and pack touch-up items like blotting sheets and setting spray!
9. Plan Your Timeline Wisely
Golden hour portraits are a must in the summer — talk to your photographer (hi, it’s me
) about adjusting your timeline to make the most of that dreamy light.
10. Don’t Forget the Sunscreen!
This sounds small, but it’s big. A little SPF on shoulders, faces, and exposed skin can save you (and your photos) from lobster-red sunburns!
Summer weddings are absolutely gorgeous — and with just a bit of planning, yours can be equal parts magical and manageable. Need help planning the photo side of things? Let’s chat. I’ve got your back and your timeline!
