Tips for Finding the Perfect Wedding Venue
Your venue sets the tone for your entire wedding — from the vibe of your decor to the flow of your timeline (and even how your photos will look!). Whether you're dreaming of a romantic barn, modern industrial space, or intimate backyard, here are my top tips to help you find the one:
1. Start With Your Guest Count
Before you fall in love with a venue, make sure it can comfortably hold your guest list — not just “technically fit,” but with room for a dance floor, food setup, and breathing space.
2. Know Your Budget
Venues often take the largest chunk of your budget. Make sure to ask what’s included — tables, chairs, linens, parking, staffing? What looks affordable at first glance can add up fast once rentals and extras are considered.
3. Think About Light (Especially for Photos!)
Natural light is everything for your wedding photos. Look at window placement, outdoor ceremony options, and even where the sun will set. Venues with plenty of soft, natural light make a photographer's job (and your photos) shine.
4. Ask About Backup Plans
Planning an outdoor ceremony? Be sure the venue has a rain plan you actually like. Indoor alternatives, tent options, or flexible setups will give you peace of mind.
5. Consider the Logistics
Think about:
Travel time between ceremony & reception
Accessibility for elderly guests
Getting-ready space on-site (a HUGE bonus!)

6. Ask About Time Limits & Restrictions
Can you stay late or are there strict end times? Are there sound ordinances? Candle/flame rules? Can you bring in your own vendors? These details matter more than you think.

8. Visit at the Same Time of Day as Your Wedding
If possible, tour the space around the same time you’d actually be getting married — it’ll give you a much clearer idea of the lighting, shadows, and ambiance.
9. Trust Your Gut
If it feels stuffy, too salesy, or like you’re being rushed through — it’s probably not your place. Go with a venue that makes you feel excited, seen, and supported.
